What type of Borders did you encounter as a group?

We explored different kinds of borders, including borders in identity and relationships, borders between time and the body, borders between the physical and the natural, and borders in culture and language. My understanding of these borders always comes back to people. A border is not just a line but a relationship and a shifting state that is always changing.

Which type of Borders did you research during your Primer task?

When I explored the physical borders in Lime Grove, I found the bumps, shapes and textures on the building and objects really interesting. They all have practical functions, like the anti-slip pattern on the stairs, the cross shape in the window that holds small pieces of glass together, and the shape of the radiator pipes that helps store water......

What type of Border do you think you will explore further?

I realised that many things I am interested in are related to people and how they interact. I want to explore the border of body perception and express it through heat and physical space. When I looked at the radiator, I noticed its clear sense of boundary. It gives warmth and feels comfortable, but if you get too close it can burn you. This mix of comfort and danger made me think about how distance affects us in real life. It also made me think about how people protect themselves emotionally, and I find this kind of exploration very interesting.

How have your stitched samples reflected the physical Borders primary research from today?

I mainly made rubbings of different uneven textures in the space today. I was especially interested in the texture of the radiator, and the rubbing result surprised me. So for my sample, I used a looping weaving method to create something like the hollow pipes of the radiator, and then used another thread to go across the loops and connect them together, making a simple abstract version.
